The IMBA Orientation series activities for 2015 MBA students was from August 3 to September 11, 2015, including a one-month long intensive English training by US trainer Daniel in August focusing on presentation and academic writing skills, outward bound, case study, career direction advisory seminars, conflict management leadership workshop and cross-cultural activity.
This year’s MBA outward bound was held in Yanjiao, a county on the east side next to Beijing and lasted 2 days. Over 300 MBA students, Chinese and international, from all classes were mixed together. At the opening ceremony, the Vice President of the University, Prof. Xiangbing Liu first introduced the history of Renmin University of China, followed by ice-breaking team training and CS game in the afternoon. In the evening, there was a performance show all prepared by the 2015 MBA students. Their versatility and artistic composition were amazing.
Back in Beijing, Prof. Majid Ghorbani, IMBA Academic Director, gave a session about IMBA Program Introduction to enable 2015 IMBA students to learn more about the program arrangements and get ready for their study and life in Renmin.
Later on, Ms. Lysa Wang, 2015 IMBA class advisor, had her first class meeting of this semester and helped students finish the university registration procedures. At the end of the class meeting, Mr. Tian Zhou, an alumnus of the IMBA program, was invited to share his experience on how to transfer successfully into a finance industry and how to make full use of the university resources during the MBA study.
On September 9th, Mr. Alistair McArthur gave a workshop on Team Conflict Management. He let students personally experience common conflicts due to different perspectives through small activities. In addition, he helped students understand how to balance personal interests with team interests and how to avoid and solve conflicts in both work and life.
During the IMBA Orientation, there were also 5 academics & career direction advisory seminars on consultancy, operations, human resource management, marketing and finance offered by Professors Hua Song, Jianghua Wu, Yunxia Feng, Jing Jiang, and Shuye Wang from 5 different departments of the School of Business. Through the workshops, students can learn how to get ready for the area they are interested in. The five professors will also be the career mentors who give students continuous advice and help.
Through the series of 2015 IMBA orientation activities, all IMBA students became much more familiar with each other and more prepared for cross-cultural understanding and team work.
